Who Is He?
Up To Know Good on Wednesday
August 02, 2006
I was sitting in a coffee shop when someone asked me what book I was reading. I looked at the unmistakable leather-bound tome in my hands and decided not to make a sarcastic comment. The Bible, I replied simply. A discussion followed about Jesus, faith, and doing good things for others. We quickly discovered some key differences in our belief systems. You need to live a good life, he insisted. How good? I asked him. He said that we need to be perfect to enjoy eternity, and that God gives us the ability to be that good. I responded, if thats true, then why Jesus?
Do Good - Are you able to articulate your faith to others? Practice sharing what you believe by writing it out and/or speaking with a friend. (See Acts 10:34-43 and our What We Believe webpage for ideas.)
The man and I discussed various theological points and tried to convert one another for about thirty minutes. After he left, I looked back at my Bible. This man saw Jesus as an example, not an answer. As I looked through my Book, I again felt reassured that I had found both.
Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:25. See Romans 4:20-5:11.
Jesus, thank You for being my Answer. Help me to speak clearly and kindly with others when I get a chance to talk about You.
Know Good. Do Good. Feel Good.
I pray that you have a great day as you experience and express God's love in fresh, real ways!
