Shadows
Up To Know Good on Tuesday
October 31, 2006
One year on October 31st, I helped organize a party. I remember preparing the eyeballs by mixing grapes up in a bowl of mayonnaise and making worms of cold, cooked spaghetti noodles. Before our guests arrived we created an atmosphere. Scratchy, eerie music played in the background, and we dimmed the lights. With only shadows to guide them as they entered the house, people couldnt see they were touching ordinary grapes and noodles. Plus, they were very surprised when someone popped out unexpectedly and said BOO! It was a fun, memorable event.
Do Good - Turn on a bright light and pray. Ask God for divine perspective on the shadows of life that scare you today.
I dont celebrate Halloween much anymore, but that childhood memory stays with me as a fun event. After all, it wasnt the actual bowls of food that were creepy; it was peoples perception of them. I had seen the grapes, the noodles and my friend behind the scenes in the light, so I wasnt afraid of them when there were only shadows. Sometimes, I forget that if I would look at certain situations with the Light on them, they would not scare me. Lets choose look at life from Gods well-lit, behind-the-scenes perspective when we begin to feel afraid.
The Lord turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. 2 Samuel 22:29b-30. Click here to read about David's confidence in God.
God, please shine the light in the dark corners of my worried mind. Help me to see my problems from Your divine, well-lit point of view.
Know Good. Do Good. Feel Good.
I pray that you have a great day as you experience and express God's love in fresh, real ways!
Blessings,
Sara
