The Present of Presence
Up To Know Good on Monday
December 04, 2006
As I talked with Donna, I had the sense that I was the only person in the restaurant. I had been looking forward to getting her professional insight on some important life decisions I was facing. We had less than an hour for our lunch meeting, but I quickly realized it would be long enough. She listened intently to what I was saying and nodded in response. I asked her questions, and she gave thoughtful concise answers. I left the meeting satisfied with her advice and deeply appreciative of her time.
Do Good - As you speak with people today, deliberately give them your full attention.
I've had a few other brief conversations with Donna, and even in those short exchanges, she demonstrated a razor-like focus. I began to realize what a gift it was to be the person receiving such authentic, direct attention. Reading about Jesus time here, He spoke to people much like Donna. Though often interrupted, He was not easily distracted. He was attentive to whomever He was currently speaking. Lets learn to focus and love on people like this.
Jesus said to Jairus, Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed." Luke 8:50. Read this short story of Jesus staying focused on Jairus request while dealing with an important interruption.
Jesus, thanks for always being attentive to me. Help me focus in my conversations today.
Know Good. Do Good. Feel Good.
I pray that you have a great day as you experience and express God's love in fresh, real ways!
