As I reached into my PO Box, I was relieved find an envelope from a client. My outstanding invoice with them was significant, and I had already earmarked most of my earnings from them. As I opened the envelope and scanned the check, I noticed that it was made out for remarkably less than what I had earned. In fact, after some quick calculations, I realized they paid me for only about ten percent of my actual billable time. Confused, I went home and checked my records. To my surprise, there was a mistake on the invoice.

Do Good - Have you poorly communicated expectations to someone? What are you doing to correct the situation?

My confusion quickly turned to frustration as I saw the error on the invoice. I took a deep breath and then realized that I did, at least, get exactly what I’d (unintentionally) requested. The company wasn’t trying to be unfair, I had simply failed to appropriately bill them. Eventually the invoice/billing issue was resolved. On a deeper level, it made me aware that we often receive exactly what we request. Instead of having small, “realistic” expectations, let’s look for God to amaze us today!
